"We need laughter and purpose and healing. We need to be invited to stretch our minds, hearts and imaginations, which are all infinite in their capacities – infinite and therefore spiritual. We need these things far more than we need 30 brands of toothpaste."

Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a method of stimulating reflex areas in the feet, hands, or ears that correspond to each and every gland, organ and part of the body. Correct stimulation of reflex areas relieves stress and tension, deeply relaxing the whole body from head to toe. This therapeutic relaxation serves to normalise the body's functioning, effectively facilitating the body's healing process, revitalizing and enhancing your total health.

The reflexologist works to strengthen each and every part of the body, including all those parts in which symptoms are not manifesting. Often it is the healthy parts of the body that provide the resources for healing those which are ailing.

The History of Reflexology

The idea behind Reflexology is not new - in fact, it was practiced as early as 2330 B.C. by the Egyptian culture. Reflexology as we know it today was first researched and developed by Eunice Ingham, the pioneer of this field. Her first book on the subject was published in 1938. And since 1942, Reflexology workshops have been conducted year round.

The method has been used for several thousands of years and is known to have been practiced in a similar manner by the Chinese and the Egyptians. More recently, Reflexology was described in the form in which it is now known by the late Eunice Ingham, an American lady, who based her method of treatment on work called 'Zone Therapy' which had been described some years earlier in the 1920's by an American, Dr. William Fitzgerald. The main pioneer of Reflexology in Great Britain was the late Doreen Bayly who introduced the method in the early 1960's and whose great determination to stimulate awareness and interest in the method should not be forgotten.

What does a Reflexology Consultation Involve?

As the reflex areas of your feet, hands or ears are stimulated you may from time to time experience pin-prick-like sensations. These sensations result from sensitivity that frequently reflects the presence of tension in the corresponding part of the body.

If it is not comfortable for you, you should ask the person who is doing the reflexology to decrease the amount of pressure that they are using.
It is important that you are comfortable with the stimulation, as relaxation is the primary goal of reflexology, and you need to feel comfortable in order to relax in your session.

How can Reflexology Help Me?

Reflexology is used primarily to relieve stress and tension and produce deep therapeutic relaxation.

Conventional medicine has found that that over three fourths of our health problems can be linked to nervous and physical tension. By reducing stress and tension, reflexology improves blood and lymph circulation, strengthens the functioning of the immune system, improves assimilation of nutrition and elimination of toxins, and calms the nervous system. In these ways, reflexology facilitates the body's natural healing processes and thereby enhances the body's health and vitality.see research

Reflexology relieves stress and tension and deeply relaxes people independent of their beliefs about it. The therapeutic relaxation that reflexology produces facilitates the body's release of toxins. Most people enjoy pleasant relaxed and/or energised feelings after a reflexology session.

Reflexology practiced is completely safe. It simply relaxes the body, which allows it to function more effectively. The results can be amazing.
